Wilder Learning North Durham is a nonprofit independent elementary micro-school, offering nature-based alternative learning in Port Perry, Ontario. We are committed to a holistic approach to education, focusing on the development of the whole child in a rich, nurturing environment.

We believe in an educational experience that respects each child’s individuality. Our approach combines outdoor and nature-based education with experiential learning, creating an environment where children can explore, discover and grow. Our child-centred emergent curriculum, inspired by Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and Waldorf approaches, cultivates a passion for lifelong learning, while nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and social responsibility.

Our Programs

Our curriculum provides hands-on, diverse, and enriching experiences, including:

Practical Life Skills: Teaching children essential skills that promote independence and confidence.
Hands-On Science: Engaging, experiential science activities that spark curiosity and a love for discovery.
Thorough Math and Literacy: Grounded in sequential incremental multi-sensory learning, ensuring a solid foundation in essential academic skills.
Unit Studies and Project-based Learning: Using themes to connect subjects and involve students in hands-on projects to make learning more engaging and meaningful.
